Guillermo Rosales (2078, now 2104) will remember the 2005 US Open
for not just his victories, he went 6-3, but for his hard fought
losses. Notable wins included 3-1 over 2112 Werner Stollenmeier
in the U2400, and come from behind win over senior legend David
Sakai (2186) 8,-7,-7,10,7 in the Over 40's. Li Yuxiang (2520)
dominated over 30, 40, 50 & u2600, but Guillermo made his presence
felt by being the only player to take a game from him in the Over 40.
Ray Filz (1836, now 1773) managed to lose points even though his
7-5 record was a decent showing. He won all his rr preliminary groups
in the U1750, U1900 & Over 40/U1800, reaching the semis of the last
event before being derailed by 1790 Lev Nosel in 4.
Edem Komlanve (shown giving tips to Samsonav) had a below average
day going 3-6 (1884, now 1822). Notable win was over 1872 Serge
Poncin -6,9,5,10.
Simon Brain (1899, now 1891) went 4-4 entering Over 40, U2050,
U2200 & U2400. Tough matches included the 5 game win over Simon
Gendler (1888) -9,7,-7,10,1 & the -5,-6,8,6,9 loss to 1829
Joseph wells. Simon and Ray also teamed up for the U3700 doubles.
